In Devon, we’re simply spoilt for choice when it comes to locations for photoshoots, and bluebell woods are my favourite! The thing with bluebells is that you really are governed by the type of light that day, be it overcast or sunny, or even hazy from a nearby bonfire. No two shoots will ever be the same and that adds to their beauty too.
This particular session took place late on an overcast April afternoon, the light was really dim and the bluebells were really purple – perfectly fitting for these two beautiful sisters as just moments before I had messages from their mama telling me that they had decided to colour each other in – in blue – with Berol markers! It’s like children have this inherent ability to just know when they need to look half decent. I couldn’t help but giggle though!
It’s the second time I’ve been lucky enough to have these gorgeous girls in front of my camera and each time I do it’s such a treat! Bluebell shoots are easier with girls I find, because you can tell them that fairies make their houses amongst the bluebells and ask them to help you look for them! This shoot however, was so magical that you could almost swear that the girls HAD seen fairies – at least they kept on saying they had! I’m so blessed to have my two (almost three) boys and spending time with them is always my favourite thing to do – however, when I get to spend time with girls on a magical shoot like this, my girly side really comes out and it’s so special that I get to experience that side too, even if it is through photography.
It’s really sad that bluebells only come around once a year, although, like most things in life, this is what makes us appreciate their beauty even more!
